How do I check if I need a Moldova vignette? The chances are extremely low, rather non-existent, that you will not need a vignette in Moldova.
Why?
Because the tax is paid by vehicles registered in a foreign country for all public roads in the Republic of Moldova.
Where can I physically buy the Moldova vignette?
You can purchase the vignette from a Moldova Agroindbank (MAIB) branch.
Don’t stress too much, because you can easily find a location at the border, but also later, in the territory of the country. The list of branches is here, look for the one near you. At the same time, you can purchase at any point of the payment terminals of the Qiwi, Paymaster, MMPS and PayNet companies, present at most border crossing points, at PECO stations or in shopping centers.
The validity of the vignette taken on the spot starts on the day it was paid and ends at 23:59 of its last day.
For the Moldova vignette you only need the following information:
- vehicle registration number;
- the name of the driver;
- CNP or, in the case of foreign nationals, the passport number and series
- the country of origin of the vehicle;
- vehicle type;
- the period for which the vignette is desired;
- the equivalent in Moldovan lei of the road tax in Moldova.
You must keep the payment collection order throughout your stay in Moldova, so that you can present it to the authorities that exercise controls.
However, it is important to keep in mind that for any MD vignette that exceeds the price of 45 euros, you will pay a commission of 1.5% of the amount or 7 Moldovan lei to the bank.
Can I buy the Moldova vignette online?
Yes! Our advice is to opt for this method, because it is not only faster, but, as you saw above, it can also be cheaper.
The Ministry of Transport offers the opportunity to take the vignette for Moldova online, through the Mpay platform.
Simply follow the steps below.
Complete/select:
- vehicle type;
- the date from which you want the online MD vignette to become active;
- its validity period;
- the country where the vehicle was registered;
- vehicle registration number;
- the name of the driver;
- CNP or, in the case of foreign citizens, the number and series of the passport;
- the e-mail, where you will receive the payment registration.
You need to confirm the displayed amount, i.e. the value of the vignette changed from euros to Moldovan lei, at the rate of the National Bank of Moldova.
You have 4 ways to pay for the MD vignette online. It is most convenient to opt for the bank card (MasterCard or Visa) if you are not yet in the country.
You can also pay cash for the vignette obtained online, if you are already in Moldova. This means that you will print the payment order and start looking for a PayMaster terminal, QIWI, MMPS or a post office to complete the transaction.
The “Check note” option on https://mpay.gov.md/ shows you the validity for the road tax in Moldova and allows you to download the PDF version of the vignette. All you have to do is print the proof of payment and you can see your route.

The MD sticker has a fairly variable price and is related to its validity period, along with the type of vehicle.

Moldova road tax for vehicles over 3.5 tons
Vehicles with a total mass exceeding 3.5 tons have a higher rate for road tax in the Republic of Moldova than the other mentioned categories.
There is also a considerable difference here, as the trucks are divided into two limits: from 3.5 to 10 tons and from 10 to 40 tons.

How much does a vignette fine cost in Moldova?

The value of the fine for the Moldova vignette is:
- between 2,250 and 3,000 Moldovan lei for a period exceeding 7 days from the moment the vehicle is in Moldova and does not have a certificate attesting the payment of the vignette;
- between 3,000 and 9,000 Moldovan lei for repeating the sanction during the same year.

The only option you have is to pay the fine.
